Lessons

Voice and piano lessons are available for beginner through advanced levels.

Audition Preparation is offered on a flexible basis.

Lessons are taught in student’s homes. Piano lessons may be taught on either a piano or an 88-key weighted keyboard. Voice students will also need a keyboard but at least a 61-key non-weighted keyboard is sufficient for beginners. Gas and mileage are included in the lesson fee.

Beginner & Intermediate Lessons

The key to successful lessons is to educate students about music through the music that they love. The first thing that Elisabeth asks her students is, “What would you like to learn?” Presumably, students want to take lessons because they admire certain songs, styles, or musicians. Elisabeth helps students establish a path for their musical journey, and will develop a personalized lesson plan designed to have students playing or singing music that they love as soon as possible. While lesson books may be used, Elisabeth also believes in finding theory and technique lessons within pieces that her musicians genuinely want to play. While she is a classically trained musician, Elisabeth values the contributions of all music, and believes that we can learn valuable lessons from any musical era. Elisabeth also identifies and encourages unique gifts in her students. Gifts such as the ability to play by ear or a talent for music composition will be developed and even featured in performance venues.

Elisabeth’s students are noticeably well-rounded musicians. Through her philosophy of teaching music that students love, Elisabeth also lays solid technical foundations that give her students an edge in musicianship as they advance.

Advanced Lessons

Elisabeth offers advanced performance lessons and musicianship training for students preparing for high school or college entrance auditions, competitions, All-State or other musicianship exams. For these time-sensitive events, a repertoire will be established and extra sessions may be scheduled as needed.

Audition Preparation

Elisabeth offers flexible audition preparation for musical theater auditions and specializes in preparing singing actors for their professional auditions. This audition preparation encompasses song selection, audition etiquette and the psychology of auditions as well as vocal technique, vocal styling and character work.
